2009 KTM 990
Adventure / 990 Adventure R
Ever
since its arrival in 2004, the KTM Adventure series has set the
standard for big bore dual sport bikes. Mating KTM's dirt bike building
expertise with their compact yet powerful v-twin engine, the KTM
Adventure has always been the bike of choice for people who want
incredible on and off road performance. The rally inspired styling and
technology bring together KTM's years of experience in off-road
performance with a platform that is as road worthy as any dual sport
bike currently on the market.
The 2009 Adventure and Adventure R are no
exception. Boasting numerous upgrades, both in performance and
ergonomics, the 2009 models are the logical next step in the evolution
of the KTM Adventure.
990 Adventure: New features
for 2009
|
For
2009, KTM has reworked the 990 engine to put out 8 more HP than the
previous model. With 106 HP and 73.8 ft-lb of torque, this new engine
has power down low and up high, everywhere it's needed. The EFI has
been improved, resulting in smoother power in the lower RPM range,
making the KTM 990 powerplant ideal for all terrain and road
conditions. The new 990 engine has also been designed to omit the 600 mile
valve adjustment service. This reduces the cost of the first service
due to the fact that only the engine oil has to be changed at 600
miles. The 2009 990 Adventure also features the exhaust pipes from the
990 SuperMoto, for increased performance.

The most obvious
improvements to the 990 are in the cockpit. The lockable storage
compartment has an improved opening mechanism. The dash has an
analog tachometer to compliment the improved digital multifunction speedometer. A
hazard light button sits just below the larger (20mm) 12v power outlet,
There is also an integral GPS mounting system, designed to be used with
KTM's Powerparts GPS mounts, putting all the information exactly where
the rider needs it. The 990 Adventure now also features a key
based immobilizer system, which prevents the bike from running
without the proper key. Further
improvements include matching glossy paint on the fairing and tank,
black coated outer fork tubes, black swingarm, hubs and brake calipers.

Available in
white and orange, the 2009 KTM 990 Adventure continues to set the
standard by which all other adventure bikes are measured.
2009 990 Adventure R

Sharing
all of the upgrades of the 2009 Adventure, the Adventure R also comes
with an impressive increase in engine power. The new 999cc R engine
puts out 115 hp with 73.8 ft-lb of torque. As with the previous
Adventure S, the Adventure R offers 2.16 inches more suspension travel
and ground clearance than the standard Adventure. Other features that
add to the off-road capability of the Adventure R is the sport seat and
no ABS. The orange frame and new graphics give the Adventure R an
aggressive and distinctive look.
